alaska 300x230 Maximizing Geothermal Incentives: AlaskaDespite the long winter, Alaskan homeowners need reliable cooling when summer comes around. Traditionally, this has meant reliance on an air conditioning system, but thanks to the great incentives, more Alaskans are turning to geothermal heat pumps than ever before. Geothermal heat pumps use subsurface temperatures to provide heating and cooling, an energy efficient way to get through winter and summer. They also produce minimal emissions, reduce a home’s carbon footprint, and can last for years.

One way Alaskans can save on geothermal heat pump purchase and installation is through the Renewable Energy Grant Program through the Alaska Energy Authority. It provides grants for renewable energy systems like geothermal heat pumps. They can also save via the Alaska Energy Efficiency Interest Rate Reduction Program that will ease loan payments for qualified homeowners. Both of these programs may be used in conjunction with the 30% purchase and installation cost tax credit via the Federal Renewable Energy Tax Credit provision.
