Not sure which system would best suit your needs?  Let’s compare the two and find out which one you should purchase.

Let’s begin with efficiency.  When you compare the efficiency of the ductless mini splits and central air
systems you will not find a great difference.  Both of these systems offer high efficiency and feature a variety of SEER ratings to best suit your standards. With that said, each zone of the ductless mini split can be set and operated independently to save you money on energy costs.  For example, if you only use a room at night then that system can be set to provide you comfort only at night and not run all day.

It is very important to consider space.  If you need to heat/cool an entire home then a central air system will be your best bet.  It would be too expensive to purchase a ductless mini split unit for every room of your home, but if you only need to heat/cool one or two spaces then the ductless mini split may be a great option.  You must also consider how much space you have to install the units.  Ductless mini splits require no ductwork and both the indoor and outdoor systems are small.  The central air systems require ductwork and you must have the space to install it.

The last and most important thing to consider is price.  The price of the equipment for the two systems is comparable.  Ductwork and labor are additional costs that you should consider when purchasing a central air system.  Additional zones and labor may drive up the costs for the ductless mini split system, too.  It is important to obtain these costs and compare before you purchase either system.
