EC Series Geothermal Heat Pump:

As part of the Bosch Group, FHP designs and manufactures a number of geothermal heat pump systems. When it comes to heating and cooling solutions, their EC Series is at the forefront of innovation and sophistication. An EC Series unit is versatile enough for ground or rooftop installation, uses natural conditions to improve interior air quality, can operate as quietly as a typical household refrigerator, and is available in a variety of sizes to fit different building requirements.

Versatility aside, the best thing about an FHP EC Series unit is energy efficiency. On open loop installation an EC Series can reach efficiencies as high as 20.6 EER, performance way ahead of traditional air conditioners and air-source heat pumps. This kind of routine performance results in reduced power consumption and lower utility bills.

Through Ingram’s Water and Air, the FHP EC Series comes with standard features like coated air coils, R410A refrigerant, PSC motor, cupronickel coaxial heat exchanger, 4-way reversing valve, blower housing, stainless steel drain pan, filter drier, floating base, service connections, unit protection module 1, condensate overflow switch, freezestats, 4 sided filter rack and sound package.

EC048 Geothermal Heat Pump:

The FHP EC048 Geothermal Heat Pump is an excellent system when it comes to reducing yearly energy consumption while still enjoying high quality heating and cooling. On a typical open loop installation the EC048 averages 20.6 EER. EER is a government and industry measure of efficiency and the 20.6 rating is a good indicator of high performance operation. Many geothermal heat pump owners save enough on their utility bills during the first five years of operation to pay off initial system installation costs.

Why is a geothermal heat pump like the FHP EC048 so much more efficient than a regular heating and air system?

The key to high efficiency geothermal heat pump operation is how it handles heat. A basic heat pump or air conditioner moves heat in or out of a building to provide heating or cooling. When it comes to heating, transferring heat from one location to another is much more efficient than generating it. In terms of basic operating principles a regular air-source heat pump heats more efficiently than a gas furnace. The downside is that as the exterior air temperature drops an air-source heat pump loses efficiency and eventually loses out to the traditional gas furnace.

Unlike an air-source heat pump, a geothermal heat pump extracts heat from a buried source. No matter how cold it gets above ground the subsurface temperature rarely changes much in any season. This relatively simple modification solves the primary problem, efficiency loss, with heat pump winter heating and results in ultra-efficient operation.

So, with a geothermal heat pump like the FHP EC048 you can get great cooling through summer and great heating through winter. You also get standard features like coated air coils, stainless steel drain pan, filter drier, floating base, service connections, R410A refrigerant, PSC motor, cupronickel coaxial heat exchanger, 4-way reversing valve, blower housing, unit protection module 1, condensate overflow switch, freezestats, 4 sided filter rack and sound package.
